Marc Quinn: "Alison Lapper pregnant"

Marc Quinn never fails to cause a stir and this huge marble sculpture was at the centre of polemics when it was installed, a few weeks ago. "Disabled people are under represented in art" said Quinn... read more
It's a big step for the town of Verona to host such controversial pieces of art. Somehow it's more difficult for the people - grown up among ancient and classical art - to understand and accept modern art, let alone a "powerful" piece like "Alison Lapper pregnant".
I like it and I deeply respect Alison Lapper, a strong woman who has been fighting throughout her life to live a normal life, be accepted as a woman, an artist and a mother...

She has true fortitude.

looks almost like a tableaux or painting of various objects.
Interesting!

Very powerful sculpture, and especially since it's based on a real person.

Something like that will be very controversial here too :(

I like the picture in black and white; it accentuates and ties the modern (and controversial) art with the old in Verona.

Might I also say that the street lamps in Verona look great. I like the iron work and the three glass globes. They must look wonderful at dusk.

Hi, we had this sculpture in London for a bit I think. Alison Lapper's a strong woman and simply lives her life. I didn't realise the work was being seen outside of the UK.

I really like this picture, the angle and the white and black.
Thanks also to the notes on the sculpture.
A magnificent shot!

That post makes me feel you more near to my heart.
I was shocked (and very angry) with "normal"pregnant women not wanting her statue in trafalgar sqare.
I do admire her strength so much...

Something I did not know about before your post. I am very moved after reading about Alison. With all the "crap" art out there that museums and cities pay big bucks for, I applaud this piece. I want to read more about her and her life. Thank you for sharing this with us. And b eautifully captured I might add.
